“It’s excellent to be able to tap into the Japanese market this way,” says Papu CEO Jussi Kurkela in a press release.

Papu Design, founded in 2012, has more than 100 resellers internationally.

Papu is a Finnish design and lifestyle brand, with playful, unisex prints – for kids and grown-ups.

The best stories often start by accident, upon everyday encounters. That’s what happened with Papu too. Its founder, Anna, had booked an appointment at a brand new eco hair salon. While having her hair done, she noticed the postcards on sale, featuring quirky designs of a melancholy little bird. “That’s it, I want this artist to work on Papu,” she thought. Anna found the courage to call Hanna-Riikka, and the rest is history. By 2017, Papu has grown up to a company that now employs over ten people!

The first collection, “Papu and the Shower of Buttons” which came out in 2012, was designed around a bird that loves buttons. The bird’s adventure was also available as a picture book. The second collection, “Papu and Evergreen Newbie”, was launched in 2014. The collection, accompanied by a children’s activity book, describes the exciting day of a little squirrel. The collection “Papu Goes Camping” came out in spring 2015, it celebrates sunny trips in the nature and summer rain. The autumn 2015 collection inspires us all to see little treasures Papu finds On the Path to the Cottage.

The spring collection of 2016 was built around children’s parties – popcorn and straws all over the place! The wild party culminated in a video, shot on a cliff near the lake, on a sunny day full of laughter and snacks. The autumn collection continued the party theme with darker and more earthy shades. And let’s not forget, 2016 was the year of the sausages!

Before Christmas 2016 the Winter Special collection was launched. The Särö-print was inspired by the ”snowing-effect” of old tvs. The sparkling gold and green diagonal stripes brought a warm breeze to the mid-winter. 2017 started off dreaming of summer nights with Earth, Hi Hay and Dot prints. The collection ”Summer Night Dream” was introduced through a poem and video.

Positive vibes at Papu come from the happiness we get from constantly learning and developing ourselves, but also from our warm and encouraging atmosphere.
