The Alliance and Accord Agreements in Bangladesh are not expected to be extended

The Bangladeshi Minister for Commerce, Tofail Ahmed, announced that the government will not extend the two initiatives.

Once their five-year terms come to an end in December 2018, the initiatives have six months to conclude their work in Bangladesh. According to Minister Ahmed, Bangladesh now has an acceptable level of capacities for the inspection and monitoring of plant safety in the garment manufacturing sector. The Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety and the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh were established five years ago to address the lack of fire safety, building safety and occupational safety in factories supplying the international fashion industry in Bangladesh and ensure an appropriate level of safety.
