Secondary sector production declined 1.3% in 2nd quarter 2023 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier. The ongoing increase in production seen since 1st quarter 2021 was thus interrupted. Turnover grew by 1.7%, with rising prices contributing to this increase. This is shown by provisional results from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
In comparison with the previous year industrial production declined in April by 0.3%, it registered an increase in May of 0.1 %, then fell again in June (-2.6%). For the whole of 2nd quarter 2023 production declined by 0.8% in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier.
Construction production declined by 3.6% in 2nd quarter 2023 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier. Production declined by 6.9 % in building, civil engineering also registered a decline (-1.6 %). Lastly, specialised construction activities registered a decline of 2.0 % in their production.
Turnover
Industrial turnover in April rose by 2.0% in comparison with the previous year, and in May (+2.7%) and in June (+1.3%). For the whole of 2nd quarter 2023 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier, turnover registered an increase of 2.1%.
Construction turnover rose by 0.3 % in 2nd quarter 2023 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier. Turnover fell by 4.3 % in building, civil engineering registered an increase of 2.6 %, specialised construction activities an increase of 3.1%.
