The European Commission has decided today (April 18, 2023) to appoint Susanne Gutjahr as Director ‘Production of Publications’ and Christine Kormann as Director ‘Corporate Services’ in the Publications Office of the European Union. The Publications Office of the European Union is the official provider of publishing services to all EU institutions, bodies, and agencies. The date of effect of their appointments is to be determined later.
Susanne Gutjahr, a German national, will draw on her 23 years of experience in the communication and public affairs domain for European bodies, international organisations and the private sector. Her managerial skills, proven capacity to steer and coordinate large-scale projects in complex stakeholder environments with a tangible impact, along with her thorough knowledge of publication and distribution methods as well as her aptness to conceive innovative solutions will serve her well in her new position.
Over the last decade, Susanne Gutjahr has been working in various communications-related functions at the European Investment Bank Group in Luxembourg, including as Head of Communications (2010-2015) and Head of Corporate Social Responsibility (2015-2020) at the European Investment Fund (EIF) and as Senior Media Officer at the European Investment Bank (since 2022). She has led large-scale communication campaigns for EU financing initiatives managed by the EIF and worked across the full spectrum of communication channels, spearheading the development of digital communication channels at the EIF. From 2020 until 2022, she was Director of Communication, Outreach & Engagement at the Centre for International Forestry Research in Bonn. Between 1999 and 2010, she worked as Head of Communications and Head of Public Affairs for various financial service providers in the private sector.
Christine Kormann, a French national, has over 25 years of experience in the European Commission in data and knowledge management as well as in information and communication technologies. In her new capacity, she will build on her excellent communication, presentation and negotiating skills acquired through a diverse range of roles throughout her career.
Christine Kormann has been since 2018 Head of the Unit ‘Information Systems’ of the Publications Office and Deputy to the Director, and was notably in charge of managing the entire IT budget of the Publications Office. Prior to that, she occupied several functions in EUROSTAT and worked as Programme Manager of DIGICOM (Digital Communication, User analytics and Innovative Products), aiming to modernise the dissemination of official statistics in Eurostat and Member States. From 2008 until 2012, she was Head of Sector ‘Safer Internet’ in the Directorate-General for Information, Society and Media. Before joining the Commission in 1996, she was a Commercial Engineer.
